Recording Opt-Out and Better Audio Playback

Anyone can now opt out of NoteCat recordings, with new server controls and more reliable audio playback.

NoteCat TeamJuly 16, 2026

This update gives everyone more control over how they participate in NoteCat recordings, along with several improvements to audio playback and recording messages.

🛑 Recording Opt-Out

Anyone can now run /opt-out to privately choose whether NoteCat records their voice in that Discord server.

The preference applies to manual and automatic recordings. Opting out during an active recording stops new audio from being captured, but does not delete anything recorded earlier.

If an opted-out member speaks during a recording, a notice is added to the recording showing that an opted-out user spoke. It does not identify who spoke, what was said, or when it was said.

🚪 Optional Auto-Kick

Server admins can enable Auto-Kick Opted-Out Users under Server Settings > Recording.

If enabled, NoteCat will disconnect opted-out members from the voice channel during active recordings.

🎧 Better Audio Playback

Audio playback and transcript highlighting should now feel smoother, especially on longer recordings. Seeking and performance on certain browsers should also be improved.

🔧 Other Improvements

  • Active recording messages now link to the recording page
  • Free-tier recording messages now show when web access expires
  • Deleting a recording now also removes its Discord message
  • Fixed word-level timings not working properly during playback in Follow Along mode
